Sound for another National BBQ Cookoff successful!
The annual event draws a large national crowd and provides interesting challenges!

Wallace Sight & Sound Productions was able to be part of yet another National BBQ Cookoff in Meridian, Texas!

Each year, in October, BBQ experts from around the nation gather at the Bosque Bottoms fair ground area in Meridian, Texas, to compete with the best of the best… and for some of the highest paying awards you can find anywhere for BBQ.

Well over 200 teams came to compete in Chicken, Brisket, Ribs and more. Every team that competed had to have WON a BBQ cookoff or competition somewhere in the past year.

Throughout the day, music acts performed under the main pavilion. At 4:30pm, everyone gathers under this large metal structure to see and hear the awards being presented. Technically, this venue is particularly challenging as the acoustics of the open building, the large wooden (hollow) stage and the often loud crowd make providing enough volume (without feedback) hard. Over the years, we’ve determined that using multiple sound systems and distributing the speakers and careful directional choices (along with feeding the area-wide PA system) has provided enough sound so all can hear the winning numbers.

This year, the bursts of rain made it even more interesting… especially if you’ve ever been in a metal roof building during a storm. But we all survived. Actually, it was a great day, albeit long and hard.

In the end, we were finally able to enjoy some world-class BBQ.

See ya around!
